Signs of a Good Marriage

There seems to be a crisis lately, when it comes to marriage and divorce rates.  So much so, everybody seems to be preoccupied about the problem and the negativity can be contagious.  With all the bad publicity it might be easy to forget there are lots of couples enjoying content, married lives, together.

Thankfully, not everyone has become so cynical, and many people are still capable of opening their hearts to others.  It’s gratifying to know there is still some optimism around.  People change, but that does not mean they have to grow apart.  Marriage should be two people, whom together make the whole. So what are the signs of a good marriage?

  • Comfort:  You can spend time together, comfortably, with no need to say a word.  Just relax and enjoy each others company.
  • Synchronicity:  Do you often start saying the same sentence, at the same time?  As if your thoughts were synchronized, being carried along by the same wavelengths.  It’s almost like reading each others minds.
  • Trust:  Not just the trust you have in your partner for being faithful.  The kind of trust that allows you to say how you feel, knowing they would never discuss it with anyone else.
  • Respect:  Each of you shows interest in the others opinion and how they are feeling.  Even when your opinions differ.  Show interest in each others views means you respect their individuality.
  • Care:  Just asking how their day went can be of great significance in a relationship.  They may want to share something positive or negative, being willing to listen and offering them an opportunity to talk shows you care.
  • Honesty:  as the saying goes, ‘honesty is the best policy’.  Couples who are honest with each other is probably one of the most significant signs of a good marriage.  Even if it doe mean you have to tell them their jokes just aren’t funny!
